Alginate is a hydrophilic polymer product that is extracted from seaweed. The alginate products are supplied in powder form, which after mixing with water forms a nice rubber-like composition. The alginate impressions are widely used for shaping body parts, also called life casting, and dental impressions in the mouth.
In contrast to silicone, alginate products are relatively much cheaper, but should be used quickly after molding. The alginate dries out quickly, which drastically reduces the quality.
Schouten Group supplies alginates in different packaging units, types and with different processing times.
